Alsace Heavy Goods Vehicle Toll, France
This toll was introduced to stem an increase in traffic since Germany introduced its own HGV toll system in 2005.
A law adopted by the French senate on 22 December 2005 introduced the tolls.
The charge is about 0.007euros per kilometre and tonne on trucks over 12 tonnes driving on toll-free segments of the Alsation road network.
French haulage unions are protesting. (ENDS, 2006). In January 2006, hauliers staged a demonstration involving 230 lorries to draw attention to their campaign.
